Landscape Improvements
In recent years Penn has focused energy
on projects near the western
edge of its campus in an effort to both clearly define its environment
and integrate it with the surrounding community. For many years
the site, an area surrounded by high-rise and low-rise dormitories
in West Philadelphia, included a series of undefined paths that
presented a worn and unkempt look due
to overuse.
The newly installed landscape is shaped by
a series of clear pedestrian
connections between the campus and the community, defined routes
between buildings, the dis- tinct separation of pedestrian and
vehicular circulation, and new lawns for active and passive recreation.
