| The new buildings and associated landscape for Smeal
College and the School of Forest Resources anchor the northern gateway
of Penn State's main campus. The strong diag- onal paving pattern of
the Smeal courtyard reflects the geometries of the building and unites
the exterior circulation and gathering spaces with those on the interior.
The landscape surrounding the School of Forest Resources supports
the school's mis- sion to highlight the heritage of natural resources
in Pennsylvania, serves as a teaching tool, and includes paved
and lawn areas for outdoor classes.
