Logan Square Concept Plan
Aviator Park
Logan Square, one of Philadelphia's original five squares, has
long been underutilized compared to its sister spaces. In 1919
the heart of Logan Square was reconfigured as a circle to better
accommodate traffic patterns at this important access to the Benjamin
Franklin Parkway. The conversion process left exaggerated roadway
widths surrounding the circle and made the 'left over' spaces of
the Square less than hospitable to everyday users.
Contributing to a new vision for Logan Square, our goal was to
visually reunite the circle and the square and make Logan a true
partner to its celebrated sister squares. The Concept Plan evolved
from historical research and site analysis as well as community,
stakeholder, and public agency outreach. Construction is underway
on Aviator Park, the first phase project.
